We are heartbroken to hear of George's passing. He has been such a kind and helpful neighbour over the 35 years we've been blessed to share on Gibbon Mountain. He would drop anything he was doing if he saw someone in need. George will be missed by all who knew him. Condolences to Sherrill, Noel, Lawana, and Robin, as well as the members of his extended family.

George was a wonderful neighbor. We purchased wood from him a few times. My sister in law got her wood from George every year. Even let her make payments as she was a senior.
He was always willing to help. Always friendly and polite.

I have so many wonderful memories of George from my teenage and young adult years...visiting his farm and meeting the ginormous Black Angus bull named Excellence; chatting and laughing after Sunday morning service at Collina Baptist Church; enjoying hospitality at George and Sherrill's home. I want to offer our condolences to Sherrill, Robin, Noel, Lawana and their families on his passing. George did all he could to care for his family, his friends and to honour God during his lifetime.

It is with great sadness that I'm learning of and reading of George's passing. Made worse by the fact that I didn't get to see him to say my goodbye's. Anyone who knew or met George always walked away happier than they arrived. Knowing George my entire life I knew him to be hardworking, kind, caring, loving and compassionate to name a few word's. His humour was something else. He made everyone he talked to smile if not laugh so hard you'd cry. I will fondly think of George Chown and miss our encounters greatly. Please know Sherrill, Robin, Noel and Lawana, grandchildren and family that you are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Dear Sherrill and all family members,
We are sad to read of George's passing.
George lived his life with Faith, Hope and Love, his Faith carried him through these hard years, he faced life with courage and grit, never complaining. George was an inspiration to all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
George came to our home often, every visit a blessing and now a memory to treasure.
George and our late Son, Kirk , had a special bond and as we prepare to say, bye for now, I know Kirk will be welcoming him home.
George came to our home to say good-bye and bearing a very special gift, a memory we will never forget.
That took faith and courage.
Rest in peace , dear Friend.
Sending Love and Hugs to all for comfort in the day's ahead.

Collina Baptist Church was very dear to George thoughout his life. It was here that he and Sherrill were among my very first Sunday School teachers many years ago, and here that George prayed for and saw revival and new life over the past three years. This 'little church at the side of the road' was more than a building, it was where George would meet with his brothers and sisters in Christ to share his hope and faith in Jesus Christ. It was a place where God choose to reveal himself to George in his last years.
To have been part of God's plan for George at Collina during this time has brought so many full circle moments.
We have a blessed assurance that our brother is at home in heaven and that we will see him again.
We pray for God's peace and comfort for all of George's family and friends.

This is what I wrote on the Collina Baptist Church wall on Facebook in honour of George. We thought you would like to read it……..
It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our dear friend and brother in Christ George Chown.
Although we mourn the extreme loss of his presence here on earth, we also rejoice knowing he is walking hand and hand with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
He was the Elder of our small little country Church on the side of the road (as he called it)
Not only was he a Pillar of the Church, he was a Pillar of the Community. Everybody knew, respected and loved him to pieces.
George was an inspiration to all who knew him. He was a true witness of God’s Holy Word.
He wasn’t afraid to share his testimony to all who would listen.
No doubt many people have come to know the Lord because of his unwavering faith.
Many seeds have been planted.
He was a dear friend to many and a wonderful family man. He would give you the shirt of his back if you needed it.
He will be forever missed by all who had the honour of knowing him.
George’s memory will live on in all of our hearts forever.
Heaven truly got another Angel
1 Thessalonians 4:13-14:
“13. And now, dear brothers and sisters, we want you to know what will happen to the believers who have died so that you will not grieve like people who have no hope. 14. For since we believe that Jesus died and raised to life again, we also believe that when Jesus returns, God will bring back with him the believers who have died.”

George’s death is sad news to all who hear it. But he has nothing of which to be ashamed and absolutely no regrets, having passed from this fallen world into the pure joy of heaven in the presence of Jesus.
