Obituary of Leta Kennedy

It is with great sadness that the family of Leta May Kennedy of Kars NB, announce her passing on April 12, 2025 at the Sussex Health Center at the age of 80. Born in Waterboro NB, on December 4, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Stella (Ferris) Moss. And wonderful wife of her dear husband Gordon Kennedy who passed away in August of 2024.

Leta spent her childhood living in Mill Cove. Growing up with 5 brothers and 9 sisters, she was one of the younger siblings of the family. As a young 16 year old she met what would become the love of her life Gordon Kennedy, and 4 years later on August 21, 1965 she would marry and move to Kars where they built a house and began a family, living there for the duration of their life.

Early in her life she spent some time working at the Mill Cove Nursing Home, and following getting married she would look after her home and raise her family.

Leta loved cleaning and cooking and always had something to eat for anyone who dropped by, she loved playing card games like UNO and SkipBo and rarely lost at either of them. Leta loved being with her siblings and their families, she visited them often when she could.

Leta loved attending Church and loved God. She loved reading the Bible, and she was also a woman of prayer, praying for all her family and friends, a true Prayer Warrior!!!

Leta was the sweetest and kindness, and most giving woman, and always had a smile and giggle, and you were always “Dear” to her. She was the greatest Mom you could ever have, and amazing Grandmother and Great Grandmother, and she loved with all her heart!!

Leta is survived by her children, Daughter: Shelley Kennedy of Kars NB, Son: Charles (Patti) Kennedy of Hatfield Point NB. Grandchildren: Kirk (Wendy) Scott, Jena Scott, Simon Kennedy, Hilary (Luca) Rogers, great grandchildren: Jaxson, Charlie, Dominic, and Ada. Brother Chester (Jean) Moss of NS, sisters Muriel (Philip) White of Big Cove NB, Marlene Moss of Mill Cove NB, her brother-in-law Alfred Dejeet, and a special niece Diana Vail, as well as several brother and sister-in-laws, and several nieces and nephews.

Leta is predeceased by her daughter Karen Kennedy, sisters: Lena Vail (Sterling), Cora Clark (Robert), Bertha Dejeet, Violet Long (John), Dorthy White (Orville), Marie Ferris (Dolphie), Barb Bond (Paul Chandler). Brothers: Allan Moss (Lois), Ronald Moss (Thelma), Everett Moss (Audrey), Harold Moss: two infant sisters and two infant brothers.

The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the nursing staff at Sussex Health Center for their care while mom was in hospital, and also to Dr. Gregory Haines for the exceptional long term care as her family doctor for many years, and also to her recent family doctor, Dr. Anthony Robbins who took such good care of her the last few months. Thank you for all your kindness, care, and compassion.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (506-839-2156), Norton, NB.
