Obituary of Albert Wooden

It is with broken hearts that the family of Albert George Wooden announce his passing which occurred on March 17, 2025, at the Sussex Health Centre, Sussex, NB.  Born in Saint John, NB on October 5, 1931, he was the son of the late Byron and Marion (Gallagher) Wooden.

He had two great loves, the girl he first met when he was 17 and married when he was 21, Lois; and his Saviour, Jesus Christ. He lived life with a smile and positive attitude, and could find humour in just about every situation. He enjoyed camping, fishing, woodworking, and painting. He enjoyed his many trips to Nova Scotia to visit with family, and many adventures with Lois on camping and hiking trails around New Brunswick, PEI and Nova Scotia. He loved to canoe with Lois in Fundy Park and to kayak with Glenn on the Minas Basin in Nova Scotia. 

Albert was a loving, devoted father and grandfather that was always available to his children whether fixing something broken, lending a hand at their homes, painting a picture for display in our homes, making a wooden toy for each grand and great-grandchild, always with initials carved or painted, AW and date.  

Dad loved camping and fishing with his boys and Tim, Norm, and Dad had adventures with the tractor on their property in Norton.

Albert worked hard to provide for his family, working in his younger years for James Robertson Plumbing and Heating, and then for Harold Peer Plumbing, and eventually for his brother-in-law Malcolm Dennison at New Yorker Boiler Ltd, then Dennison Sales and finally retired from Barrett Sales; and as a handyman he took many evening and weekend jobs

Albert is survived by his loving wife of almost 72 years, Lois (Dennison) Wooden of Norton, NB; sons: Glenn Wooden (Darlene) of Canaan, NS, Timothy Wooden of Moosomin, SK, Norman Wooden (Angela) of Norton, NB; daughters: Andrea Hall (Wesley) of Norton, NB, Beth Ganong (Jamie) of Norton, NB; daughter-in-law Janice Wooden of Fredericton, NB; brother Donald Wooden (Nettie) of Prince Albert, SK; grandchildren: Nicole Wooden, Jonathan Wooden (Geneieve Jobin), Felicia Mercer (Isaac), Ryan Wooden (Tracey), Theresa Wooden (Mike Hardin), Marion Nodwell, Margaret Mercer (Kalen), Matthew   Hall (Sara), Alyson Jay (Nicholas), Philip Hall (Carolina), Samuel Ganong (Josie Lockhart), Jessica McFarlane (Scott), Adam Ganong (Jenna Knorr), Daniel Ganong (Meghan), Autumn Wooden (Jake Cunningham), Karmen Wooden; 31 great-grandchildren (with one more arriving soon), nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Albert was predeceased by his son, Dale Wooden, daughter-in-law Margaret Wooden, granddaughter Bernetta Mae Wooden; brothers: Harry, Ronald, Raymond, and Harold Wooden and sister, Roselyn Spencer.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Sherwood's Funeral Home and Life Tribute Center (506-839-2156) 18 Scovil Road, Norton where the visitation will be Thursday, March 20. 2025 from 4 to 7PM. The funeral Service will be held at Sherwood's Chapel on Friday, March 21, 2025 at 11:00AM. In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Albert may be made to the Norton United Baptist Church or the Donor’s choice.
